who we are
History
An attempt to form a Library Association in Bermuda was first seen in 1976 however it was not until 1984 that the Library Association of Bermuda was established having its first AGM and elections of officers. At the time there was a total workforce of 30 and out of that number there were 11 qualified librarians. Its role was to be a professional organisation, and not a trade union, acting as an advisory body on library and information services to the Government and to represent Bermuda at meetings of the International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA) and the Commonwealth Library Association (COMLA). The training and education of library personnel was also of utmost importance to the association.
The Association has had seven known presidents in its history. The first three were Mary Skiffington, the first president of the association, followed by Grace Rawlins, then the third president Joanne Brangman. The current president is Bernadette McIntosh-Tucker.
